From Santiago, Roberto Amador lights up the fall with “Eres la luz”, the third single from his upcoming album Maridaje. With an intimate and provocative sound, the Chilean artist once again fuses the sensory with the emotional, celebrating love’s power to illuminate even the darkest corners. We spoke with Roberto about his new track, his relationship with wine, and why sometimes you just have to literally dive into the fountain.

Hit play on “Eres la luz” for the optimal reading experience.

– First of all, please tell us: who is the light that shines in the dark?

One idea about this is that the light that shines within us becomes conscious, deep down, when we look at our own darkness. So it's a bit about how the loved one is often that light that illuminates our own darkness, our own shadow, and connects us with the luminous part of ourselves.

– Now that your third single is out, we can feel the vibe of the album. Tell us a bit about this project.

The idea behind this project is to share music, the sensory, the emotional—coming from something intimate. It’s fresh music that has a certain sensuality, marked by the choruses and a more Latin indie style, tied to rhythmic complexity. It also features collaborations—singers, guitars, drums, bass—done with friends. So, it’s also a project that works like a collective, between people who make music and people who love music, to reflect that richness and complexity in a song, through the participation of many voices.

"This album is dedicated to that as well—to the romanticism of marriage, of the sacred union between two things that together create something different and new."

– We saw you literally diving into a fountain. Any hidden message in that act?

The jump into the fountain has to do with that urge, those intrusive thoughts many of us have felt when seeing a public fountain and just wanting to jump in. It’s also something very characteristic in Chile.

– Your lyrics are often filled with words that can have deeper meanings—or not. Tell us a bit about this way of expressing yourself.

This album definitely includes poetic imagery, but it also carries something very sensory and explicit—something concrete and simple.

– How does Roberto Amador cross paths with wine?

Roberto Amador crosses paths with wine particularly in this album because it's titled Maridaje, known as the union or "marriage" between wine and food—and in this case, music too. It's an experience that blends moments with food, people, wine, and celebration. It’s also tied to that metaphor of union, of marriage. This album is dedicated to that as well—to the romanticism of marriage, of the sacred union between two things that together create something different and new.

– Where will we be able to see you next?

We’re currently preparing a gig, probably for the end of May. We’ll be sharing more news soon.
